Members of WARA are part of the international community of scholars committed to advancing research in and about West Africa and the Diaspora. Established in 1989, WARA realizes its mission through organizing conferences and seminars, hosting summer faculty institutes, granting research fellowships, and maintaining a spacious and well-equipped research center in Dakar Senegal. As a member, you are eligible to participate in the activities of the WARA, to receive first-hand information about WARA grants and fellowships, and make use of the facilities of the West African Research Center (WARC) in Dakar, Senegal. WARA members receive the semi-annual WARA newsletter and are encouraged to submit articles, brief research reports, and commentary. WARA member institutions have the support of WARC in organizing study groups and professional development seminars in Senegal as well being apprised of opportunities to host West African scholars, exhibits, and artists on their campuses.
